Crude Fat
- Although a dog's nutritional requirements depend on the age, size, metabolism and activity level, the AAFCO recommends that their diet consists of at least 16 percent crude fat.
- Proteins are necessary for all aspects of growth and development and are very important in structural makeup and the immune system. Protein requirements vary from species to species and can vary greatly during the rapid growth stages and for elderly animals with compromised kidneys. Keep in mind that the protein level shown on the bag or can does not indicate the percentage of digestible protein, just the overall protein content.
- Dogs need approximately 4% of their diets to be fiber.
- A dry food is approximately 88-90% dry matter. Subtracting the Moisture content percentage from 100% will give you the percentage of dry ingredients used in producing the dog food/treat.
